I met with the Barwells on a hot summer afternoon at Windy Ridge, near Peterborough, Ontario for their family and newborn photo session. They recently welcomed their new baby into the world and they wanted to celebrate this moment by spending time together outside as a family. Windy Ridge is special to them as they've spent a lot of time there over the past couple of years. This was their first walk there as a family of five. They packed a lunch and we set off through the field. Their 6 year old daughter and 2 year old son ran circles around them, playing and laughing as they meandered down the path. We found a lovely patch of shade under a large maple tree. They laid out their picnic blanket and sat down. Ashlee fed their newborn baby while their older kids ate their lunch. Then everyone cooed over their adorable newborn baby while she was fast asleep in her basinet.

They eventually packed everything back up and we made our way back from where we came. Ashlee stopped to feed again along the way—feeding is full-time when you have a newborn and I'm always prepared for baby to be in charge of newborn photo sessions. If parents need to feed, change, bathe or just take a little snuggle break, that’s all totally okay! I will be present to document as little or as much as you want me too, so you can remember the moments that mean the most to you.
